Looks like the Unknown Worlds’ devs are going to be having a pretty nice Christmas.

Subnautica 2 has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide within 12 hours of launch, according to the developer.

The game also reached No. 1 on Steam’s global top sellers chart in multiple countries.

Across Steam, Xbox, and the Epic Games Store, peak concurrent players exceeded 651,000. Steam alone reached more than 467,000 concurrent players, around nine times higher than the original Subnautica’s peak.

On Steam, the game currently has a “Very Positive” user rating, with 92% positive reviews.

Streaming numbers were also high following release. Twitch reached more than 413,000 concurrent viewers, while YouTube Live peaked at more than 109,000 viewers.

Subnautica 2 is the sequel to the original Subnautica series, which has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide. The sequel adds four-player co-op multiplayer alongside new locations, creatures, and Unreal Engine 5 visuals.

Subnautica 2 is available now on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, and the Epic Games Store. I am playing it tonight and am already damp at the thought.
