New Ape Escape Game Potentially Being Teased

Don't do that. Don't give me hope.

If you like having hope extinguished before your very eyes, you might love this potential news. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Ape Escape series, a new Twitter account has popped up that might be teasing a return to the series. Maybe. Pinch of salt, as always.

The new account, piposaru20th, which is the game’s official name in Japan, tweeted the below yesterday, which translates to “Piposar (20 years since then. I’ve been running around, but I wonder if there’s anyone chasing me anymore?)”.

While a random, unverified account tweeting randomly about Ape Escape isn’t ordinarily something to circle the wagons over (I’ve been known to tweet about Ape Escape and no-one reports on those), this new account is interesting as it’s being followed by series developer SIE Japan Studio, and the above tweet was retweeted by PlayStation Japan.

PlayStation Japan themselves have tweeted about the anniversary, with a special commemorative video chronicling the two decades old franchise, along with a special theme for PS Plus subscribers. PS Japan also confirmed that the @piposaru20th account is genuine, and officially tied to the franchise.

All of this news doesn’t necessarily point to a new game, but it’s a lot of effort for a franchise that last released a game nine years ago in Japan. Fingers crossed we’ll hear news of a Crash/Spyro-esque trilogy remaster soon. I need it in my life.
