Microsoft Reveal More Information Regarding Xbox Series X

The three pillars of Xbox Series X.

Xbox Series X

Microsoft have released a host of additional information and demos regarding the Xbox Series X, with new videos showcasing the potential for faster load times across current generation games and the ability to quick resume multiple titles.

The majority of the news comes from a new Xbox Wire post, which goes into detail regarding how the team tried to focus on three main characteristics: Power, Speed and Compatibility. The power aspect has mostly been covered already, as a lot of core specs were revealed a few weeks back, including 120fps as a target, raytracing and so much more. One new reveal was the internal 1 TB Custom NVME SSD that the Series X will be rocking, with support for a 1TB expansion card and USB 3.2 External HDD Storage. You can check out the full details below.

As for speed and compatibility, the Xbox Series X will leverage the console’s solid state drive, along with the new Xbox Velocity Architecture, to create faster loading times, support for larger, more intricate open worlds and the ability to quick resume multiple games. Check out the demo for Quick Resume below, or the loading times demo right here.

Xbox are also promising to continue support for compatibility regarding previous generation games and hardware, with the Xbox Series X promising to enhance the experience of past games, with improved image quality, better frame rates, faster load times and more.

Microsoft have even revealed the official Xbox Series X controller in a separate blog post. The controller follows a similar design to the current Xbox One controller, but with a few notable additions and tweaks. The controller now comes equipped with a share button, so you can better capture incredible moments, and the d-pad is now a hybrid of the Elite’s regular and “dish” style pads, which is said to boost “performance and accessibility for all the ways people play”.

Xbox Series X

There’s been a lot revealed about the Xbox Series X over the past month or so, but this is the first time we’ve seen something tangible: how the console actually performs when compared to current-gen hardware. It’s a massive improvement, as the loading times demo above sees State of Decay 2’s Xbox One X load time decreases massively on the Series X. But what are your thoughts?
