CD Projekt Red has officially announced that a new single-player game will begin development immediately after Cyberpunk 2077 releases in September.
At a recent press event in Poland, CD Projekt Group President Adam Kicinski told Eurogamer Poland that “We have already been working on another single-player game, we have created a relatively clear concept that is waiting for further development”.
It was not made completely clear that the single-player game in question will be a Witcher game, however, Kicinski did state that “We have two worlds and within these worlds, we want to create games, therefore all planned games are either ‘Witcher’ or ‘Cyberpunk’”. This makes it seem as though their next game will be part of the Witcher series since Kicinski’s statement tells us that it will be one of their already existing worlds. It could possibly be a new Cyberpunk game, however, that is unlikely.
Although CDPR’s new game will most likely be set in the Witcher universe, it will not be called The Witcher 4. And the project will be developed by the smallest team the company has, in part because two of the larger development teams at CDPR will still be working on Cyberpunk’s multiplayer mode and potential DLC after launch. The next Witcher game is shaping up to be a fresh start for the role-playing game series and Witcher fans have much to look forward to in the future.
Hopefully fans will not have to wait too long for the next installment of the Witcher game series, but with the Cyberpunk multiplayer mode set to release in 2022, only time will tell. Regardless of whether or not their upcoming project is the next Witcher game, Cyberpunk 2077 is looking to be a major game of the year contender for 2020. It can be preordered now on PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Google Stadia and is scheduled for release on September 17, 2020.
