Releasing on August 20th, 2021, Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will be an expansion to the already big world of Ghost of Tsushima. It’ll come out for both PS4 and PS5, but some features will only be available for the PS5, and there will also be different prices and upgrade paths depending on which platform you’re playing on.

From the expansion’s content, pricing, versions and how to upgrade, here’s what you need to know about Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut before it launches on August 20th, 2021.

How To Access Iki Island in Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut

Besides Tsushima, another island was invaded during the game’s period: Iki island.

In the Director’s Cut of Ghost of Tsushima, Iki Island will be the biggest addition to the game and will include new quests, trophies, NPCs (friendly and otherwise) and stories about Jin’s past. Not to mention new animals, waiting to be petted.

Access to Iki island is unlocked in Act 2, so new players must get there before they can fully enjoy the Director’s Cut.

Or, if you already played on the PS4, you’ll be able to transfer PS4 save files to the PS5, so you don’t have to start all over again.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut PS5 Exclusive Features

The newest Sony console has tech which allows for enhanced gameplay. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will take advantage of that tech, but only on the PS5.

Improved load times, 3D audio enhancement, 60 FPS, Japanese lip sync, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback will be present in the PS5 Director’s Cut. And those features will cover Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, too.

Ghost of Tsushima Free Updates

August 20th will also bring free updates available to all Ghost of Tsushima owners on PS4 and PS5. That means you won’t need the Director’s Cut expansion to get these updates.

The new patch will include improved accessibility with controller layouts, combat target lock and an option to hide Jin’s quiver.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Updates & Standalone

Besides the main game’s update, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, the PVE co-op mode within Ghost of Tsushima, will get periodic free patches, starting August 20th.

September will also see the release of a Legends standalone version, which gets the same patches, so people who just want the game’s multiplayer won’t have to pay for the whole thing anymore.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends as a standalone will cost $19.99 / £15.99 on both PS4 and PS5 when it releases on September 3rd, 2021.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut Prices & Upgrades

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will cost $69.99 / £69.99 for the PS5 and $59.99 / £59.99 for the PS4.

Owning Ghost of Tsushima gets you a discount, but it depends on which PlayStation console. If you own it on the PS4, an upgrade to the PS4 Director’s Cut can be pre-ordered and downloaded for $19.99 / £15.99. With the Director’s Cut on the PS4, an upgrade to the PS5 version will cost $9.99 / £9. This will be available on launch day.

Alternatively, it’ll be possible to upgrade directly from PS4 Ghost of Tsushima to PS5 Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, for $29.99 / £24.99, but only from launch day onwards.

Bear in mind that you will need to insert your PS4 disc into your PS5 to be able to buy the upgrade from the PlayStation Store if you own the original game physically. Don’t forget, though, that the PS4 version of the Director’s Cut will be backwards compatible on PS5 if you don’t want to pay extra money for the PS5-specific features.

The standalone version of Legends will be available from September 3rd for $19.99 / £15.99 on both PS4 and PS5, and upgrading to the Director’s Cut will cost $40/£44 on the PS4 and $50 /£54 on the PS5 from this version of Ghost of Tsushima. There’s no reason why this particular upgrade is more expensive in European regions. Standalone Legends owners will be able to play with owners of the full game.
