The Game of Thrones: Season 8 Finale Is Rotten On Rotten Tomatoes

Currently the third worst episode in the whole show over on Rotten Tomatoes.

Bran Game of Thrones

Few show endings are ever universally beloved, and especially when they are for the most expensive TV shows in history after stretching for nearly a decade and becoming a pop culture phenomenon in the process. The Game of Thrones finale hasn’t exactly been lavished with praise, is what I am trying to say here.

Fans have already had their say about the finale over on IMDb with ‘The Iron Throne’ already rated as the worst episode in Game of Thrones history. This comes after ‘The Last of the Starks’ earned that accolade just two weeks ago.

Game of Thrones Season 8 hasn’t favoured much better over on Rotten Tomatoes either with a less than stellar audience score of 37%. Overall, Season 8 is just barely hanging on to its fresh rating of 70% from critics.

However, its finale has joined the previous two episodes of Season 8 as being rotten with a score of 57% from 35 reviews at this time of writing.

The Iron Throne Rotten Tomatoes

While ‘The Bells‘ is still the worst reviewed episode in the show’s history, ‘The Iron Throne’ now has a lower Tomatometer than ‘The Last of the Starks‘ on 58%. Incidentally, half of Season 8 is rotten — there was only one episode of Thrones that was rotten before, which was the hugely controversial ‘Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken from Season 5’.

This, in effect, means that the amount of rotten Game of Thrones episodes has quadrupled over the course of one season only consisting of six episodes.

At this time of writing, ‘The Iron Throne’ is the third worst-reviewed episode in the show’s history, though it may end up faring even worse or slightly better. There are only 35 reviews for the episode as things stand, whereas ‘The Bells’ has 104.

We were similarly critical of ‘The Iron Throne’ in our review, going on to give it a 4/10 and saying:

“Finales should leave you needing a moment to take it all in. All ‘The Iron Throne’ will leave you is either laughing, groaning, or wondering what’s on the other side.”

Elsewhere in Thrones land, we still have questions that need answering and also brought attention to the multitude of water bottles in its last ever episode.
