Fortnite Season 7, Week 9 introduces a new spin on the typical ‘timed trial’ style of challenge. Usually, this kind of trial is quite intensive, as you often need to prebuild a course first (or ramps to make certain jumps), or be quite ace at building to get through them. This version of the trial asks you to use a Stormwing (the Biplane) to complete the course, this means building skills aren’t really required. However, you have to be fairly apt at piloting a Stormwing to complete these timed trials as they can be a little tricky to maneuver at times, so if you’re inexperienced flying the Stormwing, you may have some initial difficulties adjusting to it.
Stormwings are fairly common (though a little less common at this current stage of the season’s life, due to changes Epic has made), you can find them all over the map at the expedition outposts, we have an article from Week 7 detailing their locations here. Additionally, you can find a large concentration of Stormwings in the southwestern part of the map, particularly near Fatal Flights.
As for the completing the challenge proper: You need to find what looks like a stopwatch with two wings floating in a ring. These rings are always floating quite high up in the air unobscured by terrain. You’ll know which side to enter the ring from as there will be streaks coming off the starting ring, you want to go through the ring in the direction way the streaks are headed.
Once you fly through this ring it will begin the timed trial (noted by a chiptune themed track), spawning numerous crosshairs with a stopwatch in the centre. You need to fly through all these spawns by the initial ring before the timer runs out to succeed the trial. You’ll receive a small audio warning letting you know you’re running out of time as well. Your basic timed trial stuff.
You need to complete two of these timed trials, but we found three timed trials in total on the map, so choose the two trials that work for you, whether that be the easiest or the closest. We have a map and accompanying screenshots of the locations we uncovered.
Stormwing Timed Trial Locations Map
As you can see all three trials are fairly well spaced out, getting a plane closeby will make this significantly quicker. The starting point for all three of these trials well above their starting location, high in the air. The sooner you complete a trial the better, because once the respective winners of their landing locations emerge, they’re going to have nothing better to do but expend ammunition on your plane (before being promptly sniped in the head).
Frosty Flights Timed Trial
While not located that close to Frosty Flights, it is the most notable named location nearby. You’ll find the beginning of this timed trial, high in the air directly south of Frosty Flights near the peninsula. Roughly located at A9 and B9 on the main map’s grid.
Lazy Links Timed Trial
You’ll find the beginning of this timed trial high up in the air to the northwest of Lazy Links, near the coast. Roughly located at E2 on the main map’s grid.
Lonely Lodge Timed Trial
Above the old ‘superhero’ mansion (from Season 4, now very much defunct), just southeast of Lonely Lodge is another timed trial starting location high up in the air. Roughly located on the intersection of J5 and J6 on the main map’s grid.
That’s all there really is to this challenge. The most difficult part remains not being shot out of the air by people with all encompassing tunnel vision, that’ll happily expend 100 rounds into your plane for practically no other reason than ‘because I can’.
