Few seasons of their Battle Royale monolith have gone as well for Epic as Fortnite OG, and it’s their shortest one ever too. The brief excursion back to the game’s early days brought back many lapsed creators and players, with the mini-season smashing records (that were then smashed again by the Chapter 5 launch that immediately followed it). Fortnite OG was a widely beloved season in the grand scheme of Fortnite, and it’s also coming back for a second outing in the future.
Following the success of the season, the official Fortnite account tweeted out in early December 2023 that Fortnite OG will be returning in 2024:

It’s a sensible decision, as it basically prints money as nothing brings people back like a hit of nostalgia. However, there is no concrete release date for Fortnite OG’s return in 2024, but we’d expect it will launch sometime in Q4 2024, meaning either October, November or December. Epic will likely go down this route to make each return feel a little bit more special, while Q4 is also the time of year when they make the most money with it being the holiday season.
However, Fortnite OG will probably see quite a few changes when it returns, as Epic revealed to Axios:
“It’s just a matter of how and when, and how do we make it so it’s not just the same.”
This might be disappointing to some, but it really wouldn’t feel as special to just roll out Chapter 1 again come next year as that nostalgic novelty will be gone, which is probably why they didn’t also make Fortnite OG a permanent fixture.
If we had to guess, Epic may look to bring back Chapter 2’s map and maybe trim some of its fat, as the map was somewhat too big when it first released though it did begin to feel better and more packed as the season wore on. We may even see Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 merge, or the next iteration of Fortnite OG could instead try to completely return to the early days of Fortnite with the exact same movement, look, etc.
We will find out for ourselves when Fortnite OG returns in 2024.
