Final Fantasy 16 brings an uncanny spin to the iconic franchise with its over-the-top story and gameplay. The medieval world of Valisthea is where Clive Rosfield’s destiny will unfold as he hunts down Ifrit to avenge his late brother, or so it seems. Valisthea’s terrain is bustling with rocky mountains, high castles, and vibrant forests, however, you can’t deny they’d look even better with HDR enabled. But does Final Fantasy 16 support the feature?

Unfortunately, you can’t enable HDR in Final Fantasy 16 as it’s not supported. At the time of writing, there is no option available in the settings menu that lets you toggle HDR on or off. It’s possible that HDR may be introduced in a post-launch update, but for now, there’s no way to do so in-game.

You can adjust brightness in Final Fantasy 16 by pressing the Options button on the PS5 controller while in-game or by heading into Config from the title screen > going to Graphics Settings > Screen Brightness and then adjusting the Screen Brightness and UI Brightness sliders according to your preference. This isn’t HDR by any means but messing around with the brightness may end up giving a similar effect.

The alternative is checking your Monitor and TV for HDR in their respective settings menu. Some screens come integrated with HDR which can be activated from the device’s in-built menu. Depending on the quality of your panel, the resulting HDR in this way may end up looking even better than what most games these days come packing.

PlayStation has an exclusivity agreement with Square Enix for Final Fantasy 16, so the PS5 is the only console where you’ll be playing the latest numbered entry into the fan-favorite series, at least until it arrives on PC at a later date. PC releases are always accompanied by a plethora of more settings that you can tweak, and the chances of HDR being one of them aren’t too shabby.

Final Fantasy 16 is available now on PS5.
