Dead Island 2: How To Enable HDR

Dead Island 2 is without a doubt one of the best looking games on the market today, so much so that you wonder if its delayed release was so they could make it look so good. If you want to make Hell-A look even better than it already does, you’re going to want to enable HDR and really make the colours pop during the apocalypse.

To enable HDR in Dead Island 2, go to Options > Display > HDR Enabled > YES. You can also change the HDR brightness in this same menu. Simply save your selections and then when you get back into the game, you should now have HDR enabled in Dead Island 2.

However, if the HDR option is greyed out, this typically means that either HDR isn’t enabled on your system (whether that’s PC or console), or your display isn’t actually HDR compliant.

On PC, it’s a pretty easy fix. Go to Settings > System > Display > HDR and toggle Use HDR to on. If there’s no option for HDR, it might mean that your monitor isn’t able to display HDR images. You might also want to turn Auto HDR off to not cause any conflicts when you do eventually get HDR working. You will have to restart your game before the option becomes available again.

But what about consoles? Well, it’s all slightly different. For PS4, go to Settings > Sound and Screen > Video Output Settings and fiddle with the settings there. On PS5, go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > HDR and select always on. For Xbox, go to Profile & system > Settings > General > TV & display options > Video modes and choose the HDR option in there.

However, if you still aren’t having any in luck in getting HDR enabled in Dead Island 2, this unfortunately means that your display probably isn’t compliant. While HDR is becoming more and more of a standard with modern displays, it’s not always a given for those in budget ranges. On top of that, there are still some displays out there that are HDR ready, which actually just means that they can recognise a HDR signal and actually do nothing with it.

Hopefully, with all of your settings being right, you will be able to enjoy the bloody beauty of Dead Island 2 in HDR, because it truly is one of the best looking games out there right now. If you’re capturing footage, just remember that HDR tends to make things a little weird.

Dead Island 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X & S.
