Control: Ultimate Edition – Cloud Version Introduces Ray Tracing To Switch (UPDATED)

Take back Control.

Control

Today saw Nintendo drop a surprise Direct on our laps, filled to the brim with some huge news. One such announcement concerns Remedy’s Control, as it was announced that last year’s excellent third person shooter will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch as a cloud-based game. Check out the trailer at the top of the page.

A Cloud-Based Game?

The Control: Ultimate Edition – Cloud Version leverages the power of the cloud to bring the fantastic game to the Nintendo Switch, circumventing the Switch’s hardware drawbacks which would likely prevent Control from being available on the Switch in a conventional sense. Control: Ultimate Edition – Cloud Version will be available in an Enhanced Graphics mode at 30fps with ray tracing on or Enhanced Performance mode at 60fps with ray tracing off. That’s right, you can now get ray tracing on the Switch.

Nintendo have experimented with cloud gaming releases in the past, as Resident Evil 7: Cloud Version was also available on the Switch, but it never saw a release outside of Japan. Now, it looks like Nintendo are giving it another go, and they’re going big this time.

Anything Else We Should Know?

The Ultimate Edition of Control includes the base game and the two DLC expansions that have arrived post-launch, meaning Nintendo Switch owners can experience the full package from day one. The Ultimate Edition also landed 505 Games into a spot of bother concerning next-gen releases, but thankfully that’s not a problem for the Switch.
