BioWare Confirms That Anthem Will Be Completely Reinvented

BioWare have confirmed in a recent blog post that the much-maligned loot shooter Anthem will be receiving a full overhaul that’ll change the core experience drastically. Rumours of a grand reinvention, or an Anthem 2.0, have been circulating since last November, when Kotaku’s Jason Schreier reported BioWare’s plans to rework the game.

The blog post from BioWare’s General Manager Casey Hudson is the first time the company have acknowledged these plans in public. In said post, Casey wrote: “Over the last year, the team has worked hard to improve stability, performance and general quality of life while delivering three seasons of new content and features. We have also heard your feedback that Anthem needs a more satisfying loot experience, better long-term progression and a more fulfilling end game. We recognise that there’s still more fundamental work to be done to bring out the full potential of the experience, and it will require a more substantial reinvention than an update or expansion”.

The blog post doesn’t give a proper timeline on how long this reinvention will take, though further events, seasonal content and store refreshes have been promised, with one year celebrations confirmed for later this month. BioWare will be looking to reinvent “the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards”, while retaining the game’s fighting and flying.
