2. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

The latest in the long line of Assassin’s Creed games takes the action to Greece in an epic that is bound to last the distance. Featuring some really fun combat, sailing, and even the option to hang off of a penis (it makes sense in-game, don’t worry), Odyssey could be a good option for anyone you know who loves action.
3. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Age rating: 18(UK)/M(US)
The massively popular FPS franchise released its newest iteration, Black Ops 4, this year to some acclaim. This might be a good fit for Fortnite fans as its counterpart, Blackout, delivers a lot of the same battle royale fun. The action is as fun as it has been in ages, but those who don’t like multiplayer may not enjoy this one so much.
4. Tetris Effect
Age rating: 3(UK)/E(US)
Yes, really: Tetris. This would be an ideal present for any problem-solvers in your family, especially as it’s arguably the best Tetris game since the very first one. Tetris Effect is also incredible in virtual reality with some of the most stunning sights you’re ever likely to see in a headset, so if you want a game that will make you use your brain, this is it.

5. God of War

A lot of us here at Cultured Vultures have God of War down as our favourite game of the year and it’s easy to see why if you spend a few hours with it. A gloriously beautiful and heartfelt game with emotional depth that’s rare for a game in the franchise, God of War is one of the best games you will only find on PS4 period.
6. Marvel’s Spider-Man
Age rating: 16(UK)/T(US)
One of the best superhero games of all-time can only be found on the PlayStation 4, making it the perfect Christmas present for anyone who loves Marvel. There’s plenty of hours of entertainment to be had here, including many different Spidey suits and missions as well the ability to just kick back and swing around in New York City for hours on end.
7. Battlefield V
Age rating: 16(UK)/M(US)
For anyone who doesn’t like Call of Duty, the Battlefield franchise is the next place they usually turn. On a bigger scale and more bombastic than its nearest rival, Battlefield V takes the action back to World War II for some fast-paced mayhem that’s a good best for anyone who enjoys both multiplayer and single-player games.
8. FIFA 19
Age rating: 3(UK)/E(US)
The biggest and most popular sports game in the world has an entire culture revolving around it, so if you know someone who enjoys football/soccer, FIFA is the natural option for them. While it’s not massively different to FIFA 18, anyone who loves the series won’t want to miss out on the newest game. Just keep them away from Ultimate Team.
9. Hitman 2
Age rating: 18(UK)/M(US)
This one’s for those who love their stealth games and assassinating digital people, which may mean that it’s not suitable for youngsters. For an older person in the family, Hitman 2 is one of the best entries in a franchise that is beloved by many and even includes some great multiplayer action if they want to play with friends.
10. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Easily the oldest game on this list having come out in 2015, but if you know someone who loves games and somehow hasn’t played it yet, get them to fix that.
