One weapon that you should always have when travelling through an extradimensional hellscape filled with shadowy creatures is a shotgun, and that’s certainly true for Alan Wake 2. The double-barrelled boomstick is one of the most powerful tools in Wake’s arsenal, but if you’re a bit careless, you might miss the weapon entirely. With that in mind, here’s how you can find Wake’s shotgun while exploring The Dark Place in Alan Wake 2.
Where To Find Alan Wake’s Shotgun
Alan Wake’s double-barrelled shotgun can be found during Initiation 5. During this chapter, you need to find a way into the Oceanview Hotel, but in order to get there, you’ll need to take a detour and start following the neon signs taking you to the Mirror Peaks bar. Progress through the area as normal, and at the very end, you’ll come across the entrance to the Hotel, with an outside restaurant/bar area that looks pretty dilapidated.
Behind the bar of this area is the shotgun we want, but in order to get there, we’ll need to mess around with the lights, which is something you have to do anyway in order to obtain the password needed to enter the Oceanview Hotel. Take a light source from the area where you entered, then head over to the bar and turn the lights on. This should open the path into the bar for you. Now, you want to take the light source back while you’re stood behind the bar, which will allow you to appear behind the previously inpenetrable barricade. Once you’ve done that, the double-barrelled shotgun is available for you to claim.
The one drawback of the shotgun is that it takes up four spaces in Alan’s inventory. This is nearly an entire row on its own, making it an expensive weapon to carry around in a game that challenges your resources constantly. As soon as you can, make sure to put some Words of Power skill points into the Magic Pocket perk, which is located in the Words of Stuff category. One such Word of Stuff can be found in the Ballroom of the Oceanview Hotel, not long after you’ve obtained the shotgun, so keep an eye out for that.
