6 “Predictions” For The Next Great Battle Royale Game

fortnite battle royale

If the gaming industry loves anything, it’s a trend. Or a bandwagon. Something to follow or jump on to get an easy profit. We’ve had season passes, microtransactions, loot boxes and now, perhaps the biggest one of them all: Battle Royale modes. Since PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds exploded this year, more have followed suit.

Fortnite is perhaps the most well known “copycat”, but GTA Online also gave players the Motor Wars adversary mode, which essentially was another battle royale game type with vehicles, and modders have made a version of the mode for GTA: San Andreas. Even Dying Light has their take on the battle royale genre in the pipeline, which admittedly could be interesting because Dying Light is a fantastic game that everyone should play.

This current trend doesn’t appear to be stopping any time soon, so we’re posing the question: what other games will feature a battle royale mode? We’ve come up with some “predictions”.

Halo 5: Guardians

A pretty obvious one this, and one that the community has already tackled. The versatility of the Forge Mode in Halo 5 allows players to create basically anything they desire, so naturally they’ve created some battlegrounds for Spartans to fight in. Though Halo 5 can’t support 100 players simultaneously, a 16 player battle royale with Halo’s fantastic gameplay isn’t a bad prospect. Now, we just have to wait on 343 Industries to make this an official mode.

Potential-wise, this could be one of the best versions of the battle royale format. Technically, this would be an unmitigated clusterfuck. Similarly to Halo 5, the community have given this a try, but with much less success. The combination of land, sea and air vehicles coupled with Rico’s signature grapple hook and wingsuit would make the 100 player battles a constantly memorable affair, giving this take on the mode just enough to differentiate it from the crowd. However, unless you’ve got some NASA level supercomputer, this wouldn’t work. Let’s not even stop to consider consoles.

Sniper Elite 4

Sniper Elite 4 was perhaps one of the underrated third person shooters of 2017, offering players the perfect marriage of tense stealth gameplay, accurate yet enjoyable sniping mechanics and the sick, sadistic satisfaction that comes from watching Nazi get his plums shot off. The combination of scouting, sneaking and shooting could lend itself well to the Battle Royale format, with long ranged sharpshooting and well placed traps ruling the battlefield. Plus, you could have the winner shoot Hitler in the dick. That’s better than any chicken dinner.

FIFA 19

FIFA 18 The Journey

I’m not even sure if I’m allowed to say this, but I’ve actually read the script for FIFA 19’s The Journey Mode. To say it’s a departure from the standard is an understatement. The mode starts out normally until about 3 hours in, where Alex Hunter is kidnapped along with 99 other English football prospects, who must now fight to the death for a place on the England squad. The game ends with Alex killing his old mate Danny Williams. Honestly. My dad works at EA, he told me. You also get Battle Royale Alex as an FUT card and his stats are bonkers. 99 across the board.

The Sims

The Sims 4

You probably already know this, but every version of the Sims has a Battle Royale mode built in to the game. Just invite every Sim round for a party, delete all the doors and household objects, then wait for panic to set in. This version of the battle royale format is the only one where the winner is determined by how much of a meal they had beforehand. Make sure you’re prepared, and have a big dinner. Maybe even a chicken dinner.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: A Telltale Game Series

PUBG

What do you mean I’m not taking this article seriously? A Telltale Game for PUBG could answer so many questions about the lore, like what the blue field is, why do players have to fight, and who the hell is flying the plane? Expect this game to arrive around the same time as the Earth is destroyed in a nuclear fire/cosmic catastrophe.

And that’s our “predictions”, where the only serious part was when we said Dying Light was fantastic. Feel free to call this article the dumb bullshit that it is in the comments below.
