Unpeely Is Fortnite’s Newest Nightmare

My eyes.

Epic have got a lot of mileage out of the Peely skin since it was released as part of the Season 8 Battle Pass. He’s been re-released multiple times in the Item Shop with new styles and even turned up again in a Chapter 2 Battle Pass, but Unpeely, his newest variation, is a step too far.

Basically the Summer Drift of this year’s Summer-Splash, Unpeely is exactly as horrifying as the name suggests. He is Peely without the peel, and yes: it’s quite the interesting assault on the eyes.

Check him out for yourself below, courtesy of Hypex from the v13.30 update:

I’m screaming, you’re screaming — we are all screaming over this design.

There’s something deeply, deeply unsettling about Unpeely; the smoothness of his white “skin”, the brashness of his knees, his shorts having bits of banana on them. The fact that he’s wearing shorts at all is weird enough. He shouldn’t be embracing the sun, he is a banana and will turn into that weird bruised mush they always do. I don’t think that hat will do much.

Also, those eyes. Why those eyes? Why must he stare into my soul without any clothes on? Does he want me to take my own clothes off?

This is the latest in a long line of weird variations for Peely. He’s previously been a secret agent and a robot, but he’s also had a Halloween skin that shows he has a skeleton inside him, creating a conflict with the design of Unpeely. Where’s the consistency, Epic? How can I possibly care about the narrative journey of this banana when you can’t keep things straight?

If you’re wondering how you can claim this skin for yourself, it looks like Epic will be releasing him as part of the Summer Pack alongside Summer Fable and Tropical Zoey. These are two more reskins of previously Battle Pass exclusive skins, which seems to be a more regular thing where Epic are concerned.

I’ve been utterly lost since I saw this naked Peely skin. There are certain things that we are just not meant to see.

Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 3 is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
