The Last of Us Part II’s Official TV Spot Is Excellent

It's a cinematic, but a pretty effective one.

Ahead of its launch later in the month, it looks like Sony has started to advertise The Last of Us Part II on television with a new cinematic.

The TV spot, which aired on ESPN, cuts between Ellie playing her guitar and singing peacefully for love interest Dina to her encountering Clickers and other, less than friendly survivors. As the spot ends, she stands up from behind a car, gun in hand and ready to fight.

The TV spot song in question is an acoustic cover of True Faith by New Order.

It’s pretty effective stuff, even if it is just a cinematic and only 25 or so seconds long. The Last of Us: Part II is shaping up to be quite the theatrical experience itself with its visuals squeezing every single drop of power left in the now pretty aged PlayStation 4.

This is the latest piece of marketing for The Last of Us: Part II that focuses on Ellie over Joel, meaning the latter will probably take a backseat for the sequel. The Last of Us: Part II is the follow-up to the 2013 smash hit and follows Ellie in a post-apocalyptic Seattle as she embarks on a campaign of vengeance.

Content creators and journalists have already shared their thoughts on the game in the lead up to their official reviews, and the reaction so far has been pretty uniformly positive. The game recently suffered some pretty widespread leaks that ruffled some of the game’s fanbase, though that hasn’t stopped it from being one of the most anticipated games of the year.

The Last of Us: Part II was originally scheduled to release February 21st, 2020 before then being delayed to May 29th, 2020. It received one more delay due to the worldwide situation, which means that it will now release on June 19th, 2020, exclusively for the PlayStation 4. It’s a big game, but your hard drive should be able to take it.

Elsewhere in PlayStation land, Sony recently postponed the scheduled PS5 game reveals event due to the unrest in the United States.

There’s “only” six months left of 2020. Let’s hurry that along.
