The Last Of Us Part II

Ahead of its launch on PlayStation 4 next month, Sony and Naughty Dog have released the new story trailer for The Last of Us: Part II — with the comments and likes disabled on YouTube.

In fact, every single official The Last of Us Part II video on the PlayStation YouTube channel seems to have had its comments closed.

Following an almost unprecedented leak of pretty much all the major story beats of the game, the fan backlash has been pretty pronounced, every social media post from either Sony or Naughty Dog just inundated with spoilers.

It’s certainly an effective trailer, one that paints a picture of what we’ve already seen in the leaks to date, which, it must be mentioned, only amounts to about 90 minutes of the game in total. There’s still a lot we won’t see until launch.

Still, the amount of negative, rather aggressive (to put it gently) feedback from the leaks is something I don’t think I have ever seen for any game before release – not even Battlefront II’s backlash was this severe.

While The Last of Us: Part II will probably go down as a big seller for Sony, the leaks (and also how Sony handled those simply discussing the leaks) seem to have done huge damage to its reputation.

If you’ve managed to avoid all the leaks to date, stay off Twitter and YouTube for the next month and you may just get through this. It’s too late for me.

The Last of Us: Part II launches June 19th exclusively for PlayStation 4.
