The Division 2’s Year 1 Content Plans Outlined

Free Story missions, loot boxes, the whole shebang.

The Division 2

Ubisoft have outlined their post-launch roadmap for The Division 2, which will include new Story arcs, more endgame specialisations, loot boxes (because of course) and more. Crucially, all major updates will be available for free for all players, but there will be some incentives for those who buy the Year 1 Pass.

Firstly, Year 1 will include three story episodes which will add new missions and modes to the game. Episode 1, D.C. Outskirts: Expeditions, will see players travel to the surrounding areas of Washington to hunt down various gangs that are running rampant. Episode 2, titled Pentagon: The Last Castle, will see agents storm the iconic 5-sided building to uncover the secrets buried underneath. The third episode is currently nameless, but will bring the first year story arc to a close while paving the way for additional content in Year 2.

Year 1 Pass holders will be able to access these story missions a week before everyone else, along with immediate access to the three new specialisations. Normal players will have to grind to unlock them. The Pass also comes with Classified Assignments, bite-sized missions that reveal the last hours before the fall of Washington. Finally, Pass holders will get an extra Bounty a week and an extra Project a day until March 1st 2020. Ultimate Edition owners will also see an immediate increase in their stash size, though that just means they’ll be given a late game stash upgrade earlier on.

As for monetision, players will be able to purchase cosmetic items using real world cash. The game will also introduce Apparel Caches, which will only include cosmetic items and will also be purchasable with real world money. There will also be Event Caches, which will include specialised items depending on what event is running.

If you want to see what The Division 2 is like before picking it up when it launches on the 15th March for PS4, Xbox One and PC, there’s an open beta happening this weekend that is available for pre-load right now. Let us know if you’ll be downloading it in the comments.
