Is The Day Before Coming To PS5 and Xbox?

Back in 2021, Propnight developer Fntastic introduced the gaming industry to The Day Before, an ambitious multiplayer open-world zombie survival game. Immediately, comparisons to Ubisoft’s The Division were made, with some appreciating the potential direction and others taking a more cynical stance. As it turns out, the latter audience grew over time as The Day Before faced several delays and the development team failed to produce any substantial updates. But is The Day Before also coming to PS5 and Xbox?

It wasn’t until February 2, 2023, that Fntastic delivered something viewers could really consume. The gameplay trailer was the first raw footage showcasing an elaborate and large world speckled with mini hordes of the undead. Whatever fanfare that was gained by the trailer was short-lived, however, as Fntastic and The Day Before were targeted by the creator of a calendar app named “TheDayBefore.” With the future of The Day Before a little shaky and the new November 10, 2023, release date feeling very speculative, anticipation for the allegedly large-scale survival game has waivered. There are those remaining optimistic, though, and questioning whether it’s possible for The Day Before to shamble its way onto the PS5 or Xbox Series X & S.

Unfortunately, The Day Before is currently only slated for a PC release. Ports to those consoles are possible, but don’t hold out hope for it coming to PS4 and/or Xbox One. Most interesting, though, at the time of writing this, is that the game’s Steam listing has been removed due to the ongoing trademark dispute. When it was delisted, The Day Before was the second most wishlisted game on Steam.

Though Fntastic slapped a new 2023 release date on the game, it was still noticeably absent.

About The Day Before

Taking cues from games like The Division, DayZ, State of Decay, and other open-world survival games, The Day Before tasks players with surviving in a world gone wrong. A zombie-fueled apocalypse leaves cities abandoned, with only the snarl of zombies and scattered gunfire filling the silence.

Players will navigate the decrepit world, scouring for supplies and weapons to make it to the next day. In the ten-minute gameplay snippet, we were given a glimpse of the inventory system, which mimics games like Rust and DayZ. Weapon attachments, armor and apparel, scrap, and, for some reason, cash are common items found in abandoned storefronts, lockers, handbags, and more.

The Day Before is fully multiplayer and encourages players to tackle the undead world with a friend. Having a second body exploring with you certainly fills the relatively empty environment we were treated to. Fantastic intends to include PvP, though that wasn’t displayed in the most recent trailer.

There’s quite a bit of chatter surrounding The Day Before, though little of it is actually coming from the developer. Whether the trademark dispute will require a name change and whether or not the game will launch on its November date remains unknown. What can be said for certain is that the game has certainly drummed up quite a bit of attention for the little Fntastic has actually shown.
