Skyrim: How To Cure Vampirism

Skyrim Vampire

Skyrim is a game with almost endless possibilities. Want to scream at a dragon until it dies? Become a wizard and fight giants? Steal from shops by throwing a bucket over the shopkeeper’s head? Skyrim is your game.

Most of these actions have some consequences though. One of them is turning into a vampire. You can always pay off a guard if they caught you committing a crime, but removing vampirism in Skyrim is a little more complicated.

There are three known methods to get the blood-sucking desires out of your system. If you regret your decisions, here’s how to cure vampirism in Skyrim.

Talk To Falion

Go to any tavern, talk to the bartender, and inquire about rumors. You will learn of a vampire expert from Morthal named Falion. Travel to Morthal, but keep your vampirism level in mind. At stage four, most NPCs will be hostile to you. Although, if you have the Dawnguard add-on, they will no longer be hostile unless your Vampire Lord form is active.

Falion will tell you of a ritual that removes vampirism. You must meet him at the stone circle with a filled Black Soul Gem. If you don’t have a Black Soul Gem or don’t want to farm for one, Falion can sell it to you.

In order to fill a Black Soul Gem in your inventory, you must cast Soul Trap on a humanoid character and kill them. An alternative method is to have a weapon with a Soul Trap enchantment and use it to kill a humanoid character.

Falion can then perform the ritual to cure your vampirism. He can do it as many times as you want, so you can come back in case you get infected again.

Become A Werewolf

The second method is to become a werewolf instead. Joining the Companions and performing their main quests will give you the option to turn into one. Not only does turning into a werewolf instantly remove your vampirism, but it also makes you immune to it as long as you don’t remove your werewolf powers.

The Companions can be found in Whiterun, inside the circle.

Another way to turn into a werewolf is by having the Cursed Ring of Hircine equipped during the Ill Met by Moonlight quest.

Use Console Commands

The final method to cure vampirism is using console commands. It’s kind of unconventional and technically a cheat, so it’s better if you try the other methods if this is your first playthrough to get the full experience.

To open console commands, simply press “~” on PC. However, there’s no simple way of doing it on consoles. You’d have to download specific mods that have the same function as your desired console commands. Here are three commands that will do the trick.

  • setstage 000EAFD5 10 is the simplest command and automatically cures you of vampirism.
  • showracemenu is a command that opens up the character creation menu from the beginning of the game. You don’t have to adjust anything, just exit the character creation menu, and you’ll be cured.
  • The changesex command works similarly to the showracemenu command, and will also cure your vampirism.

No such luck if you’re on console, though.
