Single of the Week: NÖME – ‘Streets of New York’

single of the week

Hot off the presses and on the ball, this week’s SINGLE OF THE WEEK comes at you fast and loose, prompt and on time. Slightly contradictory qualities, though not, but what does that matter. I’m to schedule, unlike the other week’s shenanigans with BEAR’S DEN’S SINGLE OF THE WEEK arriving on a Wednesday. I mean, sure, last week’s brilliant SINGLE OF THE WEEK BY THE CORONAS was on time and I didn’t make a song and dance about it, but you know me, I’m prone to whim when I write and whatever falls out of my brain through my fingers is what goes.

Anyhow, I’m tip tap tapping this away and tip tap tapping you in the direction of the fantastic NÖME and their latest single, ‘Streets Of New York’. The four piece, comprising Rachel Still, Jack Fowles, George Ames, and Kayleigh Cheer, have been steadily making a name for themselves with some severely anthemic tunes under their belt – previous single ‘Nineties Child’ being a perfect example of this. They’ve been gigging hot and heavy, resulting in many a swoon for anyone who has caught them live, fans and journos alike. Hence my high level of disappointment of not being able to make it to their single launch on Valentine’s Day (which also included CULTURED VULTURES firm favourites DOLLS on the line-up).

This latest single is a further cementing of the band’s big and bombastic take on synth laden but guitar driven indie. It’s the kind of sound that calls to mind to courageous chug of Bruce Springsteen at his most contagious combined with The Killers at their most synthesized and indie-dance-floor ready, and charged with White Lies atmosphere and grandiose. So, here be our SINGLE OF THE WEEK, the blooming, brilliant ‘Streets of New York’ by bloody, brilliant NÖME. Here’s a taste of them performing it live to get you all a-fluster for the single and seeing them live.
