Some weeks are easy, some weeks are not so much. In fact some weeks are the opposite of easy, that’s difficult right? Yeah, that’s definitely difficult. This week has been a difficult week for selecting a single that stands above the rest enough to be SINGLE OF THE WEEK. Well, it would’ve been because of the calibre of singles that’ve been released this week, were it not for the fact that this week saw the release of ‘Just Like That’ by The Coronas, our CULTURED VULTURES SINGLE OF THE WEEK.
For those that aren’t aware, The Coronas are a four piece that originated in Ireland, specifically Dublin. Though, by now, you really should be aware of this foursome of exquisite indie that has one foot in the more rock oriented side of indie and the other firmly rooted in the pop side. It’s all incessantly catchy melodies and gutsy, emotive integrity. The band have been doing the rounds for some time now, having formed back in 2003 and now having bagged three albums under their belt with a fourth currently springing its way into life.
Focussing on the single itself, ‘Just Like That’ is a prime cut of twangy and driven indie that is as immediate as it is infectious laden with guitar lead hooks, prominent bass grooves, steady driven rtyhms, and big ass chorus power. I mean, if that’s not enough to sell you to the single, tough it definitely should be – seriously what is wrong with you if not – then you can take in the fact it’s almost Valentine’s Day, and I don’t doubt that you’re as sad and lonely as I am. PLEASE LOVE ME OR AT LEAST COME DRINK WITH ME SO I DON’T CRY.
So, given that it is almost Valentine’s Day, what better SINGLE OF THE WEEK than a potent blast of truly effective and infectious indie that gets you from the get go and makes you feel like you have company, whilst also boasting an accompanying video of star-crossed hoovers on a torrid and heartbreaking love affair. Maybe it’s just me, or maybe all of us can relate that poor Henry hoover, torn away from his Hetty and driven to self-medicating combative life of drink, drugs, and shitty takeaways. I MISS YOU HETTY AND I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU! Spoilers, it’s a happy ending and makes you wish you were a hoover.
