Single Of The Week: Archie Bronson Outifit – ‘In White Relief’

This time round, for our Single of the Week, we’ve picked you an absolute gem.

I give to you, a delicious nugget of psychedelia-tinged indie rock courtesy of Somerset born and London based three piece Archie Bronson Outfit.

The track is a single taken from their fourth studio album ‘Wild Crush’ which was released earlier this year. The track, titled ‘In White Relief’, begins with a delicate guitar riff and warping electronics which wouldn’t be out of place in a 60’s sci-fi film. The drums kick in, and the melodic riffs curdle smoothly together with stomping, fizzing percussion to create a whimsical, flowing background that is soon lathered in the entirely captivating voice of frontman and guitarist Sam Windett.

A deep, funk laced bass line holds the track together like some kind of musical Pritt stick as harmonising vocals melt into melodic guitar. The end result is a fun, complex, technically impressive track that I am finding completely irresistible.

Towards the end of the three minute track, a wavering, almost fuzzy guitar riff enters the fray, and pierces the warmth of the instrumentation beneath it.

The single comes with a video as interesting and as colourful as the music itself; a surreal compilation of cut-outs of statues, parrots and cityscapes.

A great single, which only furthers the band’s impressive back catalogue. If you want to hear something a little bit different and very exciting, have a listen to this.
