Pokémon Sword and Shield: How To Learn Ultimate Moves

The Ultimate.

Sword and Shield

Pokémon Sword and Shield has a whole bunch of Pokémon with a whole bunch of moves to learn, so much so that it can be a little overwhelming trying to put a well balanced team together with the right moves for the job. If you want the best moves in the game, though, you have to hunt down Ultimate moves.

Ultimate moves are super strong attacks for all three of the “primary” types: Fire, Water, and Grass. To learn an Ultimate move, a starter Pokémon must have reached its final evolution, which means that your Sobble will have to have become a Intelleon before they can learn Hydro Cannon.

Here are the Ultimate moves in Pokémon Sword and Shield and who can learn them.

Hydro Cannon – Intelleon
Blast Burn – Cinderace, Charizard
Frenzy Plant – Rillaboom

Each of these attacks do a significant 150 damage, even more so when going against weakness types. You will, however, have to wait a turn before you can use another attack or go in your Bag as they need to recharge.

To learn Ultimate moves in Sword and Shield, head on over to Wyndon and chat to the older gentleman in the park in the east of the town.

You will need to have made significant progress in the story of Sword and Shield before you get to Wyndon with it being accessible after you beat all eight Gym Leaders. The Ultimate moves will come in very handy in the big battles to come.

If you need to change your moveset after adding a Ultimate move, don’t forget that there’s someone in a Pokémon Center that can help, who can also change your Pokémon’s names.

Pokémon Sword and Shield are out now on Nintendo Switch.
