Pokémon Go: Kyurem T5 Raid, New Spotlight Hours & More

Here's what you can look forward to in July, outside of Go Fest.

Pokémon Go

July has seen a whole host of new events in Pokémon Go, and Niantic continues to gift us new raids, Spotlight Hours and Research Breakthroughs. Before we get to enjoy Go Fest 2020, you can encounter Larvitar, Kyurem, and other Pokémon, and here’s how.

Research Breakthrough

Every time you complete a Research task a day for seven days on the run, you will encounter a special Research Breakthrough Pokémon. The Pokémon for the month of July is Larvitar. Not only does Larvitar has the chance of being shiny, it also evolves into the mighty Tyranitar, which has a number of uses due to its Rock and Dark moveset. To see Tyranitar reach its potential, it needs the Fast Move Smackdown, which was a Community Day exclusive move, but can be earnt by using an Elite TM.

T5 Raid Boss

Now that Zekrom and Reshiram have had their time in the spotlight, it’s up to Kyurem to now take their place. Taking over the T5 raids from July 7th 1pm PDT and featuring in Raid Hour every Wednesday at 6pm local time, the third member of the Tao trio is a dual Dragon/Ice type.

With a weakness to Dragon, Fairy, Rock, Fight and Steel, there’s a number of good counters to Kyurem. Steel types such as Metagross, Lucario and Dialga will do good damage while also resisting Kyurem’s attacks. Aside from these, non-flying Dragon types such as Palkia and Reshiram, or Fighting types such as Machamp and Conkeldurr, are all good backups.

Spotlight Hours

Continuing the weekly Spotlight Hours every Tuesday at 6pm local time, Niantic have announced the next month’s worth, and the bonuses accompanying them.

– July 7th: Tailow, shiny chance and double Candy for transferring Pokémon.
– July 14th: Zubat, shiny chance and double XP for evolving Pokémon.
– July 21st: Oddish, shiny chance and double Stardust for catching Pokémon.
– July 28th: Buizel, no shiny chance but double XP for catching Pokémon.

Pokémon Go is a mobile game for iOS and Samsung where you can find, trade, battle and raid Pokémon with family and friends in the real world. Fill your Pokédex and don’t forget to catch them all!
