This is why you never mix work with pleasure. Paige, who is currently serving a 30-day ban for her first violation of the WWE’s Wellness Policy, had reportedly been told to break up with Alberto Del Rio or face a sacking.
Mister Saint Laurent, a respected master of the wrestling scoop, was talking about the backstage drama surrounding the pair on the latest episode “MSL & Sullivan”, which he co-hosts with Kevin Sullivan. You can find the show over at mlwradio.com or the episode in question below.
MSL states that WWE’s Mark Carrano was constantly harassing the couple, which culminated in two separate confrontations:
“Mark Carrano, who fans might know from Total Divas, kind of like the office liaison guy, approached Del Rio and Paige individually and harassed each of them about their relationship. It was indicated that the office wanted them to sever their romantic relationship.”
As if that wasn’t enough, MSL also claims that WWE outright threatened Paige with dismissal if they didn’t break up:
“A lot of people speculated if this was the reason [WWE] split them up in the draft and that’s definitely what happened. The company did not want them together. They split them up in the draft by design and they threatened to fire Paige if she didn’t break up with Del Rio.”
Of course this is only speculation and will probably never be confirmed, but is it really that hard to believe? WWE like to micro-manage every inch of the company, so if two talents being a romantic item doesn’t suit them, you can bet they will do something about it.
