No more conquering for a while

If there’s anything the Overlord anime series is masterful at, it’s leaving fans longing for another season. The fourth season’s finale aired in late 2022, after which the fandom was frightened by the thought of another long wait ahead of them. Surprisingly, while Overlord: Season 5 wasn’t announced, the good news is that the studio confirmed they’re working on a movie adaptation.

Overlord: Holy Kingdom is the feature film in question, and it’s currently slated to arrive sometime in 2023. It’s by no means a fifth season, but getting a movie will be a nice change of pace, especially because of the overcrowding of the isekai genre with shows in recent times. But what about if you’re looking forward to Overlord: Season 5?

When Is Overlord: Season 5 Coming Out?

Overlord: Season 5 hasn’t been officially announced, so there’s no release date for it yet. The Holy Kingdom movie that will release later in 2023 will adapt an arc of the manga which takes place between episodes 7 & 8 of Season 4, so everybody wondering about Ainz’s plans of global domination will have to hold on for now.

Assuming that the movie does indeed debut in 2023, it still won’t arrive on Crunchyroll and screens outside of Japan until 2024. That’s later than most of us would’ve liked, but at the same time, this suggests that Overlord: Season 5 won’t arrive before 2025 at the earliest.

What Is Overlord: Season 5 About? (Spoiler Alert)

After going to war with the Re-Estize Kingdom, the Sorcerer Kingdom easily overthrew its rule and proceeded to seize control across all of its territories by the end of the fourth season. With another Kingdom now under his command, Ainz Ooal Gown will visit the Elf Country in Overlord: Season 5.

This will mark the beginning of The Half Elf God-kin Arc in which the Slain Theocracy, one of the most powerful nations in the New World, will commence an assault on the Elf Country. Both factions actually end up raging war on each other, but in an interesting turn of events, the Sorcerer Kingdom interferes in the Slain Theocracy’s plans, and the tide of the battle starts to change. But who wins? You’ll have to find out when Overlord: Season 5 finally arrives.

Which Studio Is Making Overlord: Season 5?

Till now, all previous seasons of the anime have been made by Studio Madhouse. So while there isn’t official word on which studio will animate Overlord: Season 5, Madhouse seems to be the obvious pick. Plus there’s the stellar visual quality — no denying that.

Studio Madhouse has been on a roll throughout its entire history. The company has created many greats from Death Note, and Hunter x Hunter to everyone’s favorite seinen, One-Punch Man. The upcoming Holy Kingdom film is also being made by them, so as far as anybody knows, the anime’s future rests in good hands.

Where Will Overlord: Season 5 Be Aired?

You’ll be able to catch Overlord: Season 5 on Crunchyroll when it releases. Crunchyroll likely won’t be the only streaming service for the anime’s newest season. Hulu and Disney+ should also join in on the action, but unfortunately, both these providers are available in select regions, so Crunchyroll remains the best bet.

With the upcoming movie hitting cinemas soon, the wait for the highly anticipated fifth season will become easier, even if it’s just by a little bit. But if time isn’t passing fast enough for you, there’s always a ton of other dark fantasy anime for you to binge-watch.
