Need For Speed: Payback’s Story Trailer Looks Daft, And That’s Fine

Need For Speed: Payback

EA have just released the story trailer for their upcoming racer Need for Speed: Payback, and it’s about as silly and cheesy as you could expect. Who’s ready for another street racing revenge story? It wasn’t like we had those in Need for Speed: Carbon, Need for Speed: The Run, The Crew and so on.

Still, the trailer does leave us plenty of action packed set pieces to look forward to, with cars ducking under crashing helicopters, more cars being crashed, trains exploding and the obligatory 16 police chases. It might not be original, but it looks like it could be a laugh. Need for Speed games were always about fun racing, so the story can be shit so long as that element is retained. If this trailer is anything to go by, it would appear that way.

If you are interested in this Oscar worthy narrative, it concerns leading man Tyler, along with his crewmates Mac and Jess, as they rise through the ranks of Fortune Valley’s underground street racing scene. You’ll be completing races, challenges and missions in order to gain entry to the “ultimate race” and attempt to take down the faction known as The House. Guess they missed the memo about The House always winning.

Need for Speed will be available on PC via Origin, PS4 and Xbox One, though players with EA Access and Origin Access accounts will be able to play the game a few days early. Check out the trailer for yourself below, and let us know in the comments if you’re excited for Need for Speed: Payback.
