Is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Coming To PS4?

Few PS4 games can match the kind of mainstream appeal that Marvel’s Spider-Man enjoyed. Adapted from perhaps the most iconic superhero license in the world with Insomniac Games at their very best on development duties, the game sold millions upon millions of copies and even enjoyed a spin-off, Miles Morales, that saw similar acclaim and success. With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looking to continue the webslinger’s hot streak on PS5, fans are probably wondering whether Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is coming to PS4 or not.

The answer is no, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is not coming to PS4, just PS5 as things stand. In an announcement post, Insomniac mentioned that the game will “push the capabilities of the console [PS5].” The PS4, as a console that will be ten years old by the time Spider-Man 2 comes out, simply won’t be powerful enough to keep up with the ambition, with cross-gen games becoming less of a thing as more people are able to pick up the PS5.

However, the fact that it hasn’t been announced for the PS4 just yet doesn’t entirely rule out the possibility of Spider-Man 2 coming to PS4. As we’ve seen with the likes of Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, and Resident Evil Village, last-gen versions of games have been announced after current-gen versions have been confirmed. However, it’s highly unlikely for that to be the case for Spider-Man 2 with the amount of people with only a PS4 dropping and the technical limitations increasing as games continue to evolve. If you’re a PS4-only player, don’t hold out any hope on Spider-Man 2 coming to the console.

About Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

There’s no official synopsis (one that really tells you much of note, at least) for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 just yet, but the reveal trailer at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase told us that we should again expect to be swinging around New York as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

Kraven the Hunter can be heard throughout the trailer, with Venom also popping up by its end, who will be voiced by legendary horror actor Tony Todd. Apart from that, expect new abilties and suits as you swing through a shinier open world. Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter will both reprise their roles as Peter and Miles respectively, while Bryan Intihar will serve as creative director and Ryan Smith will be the game director.

Insomniac say that they want to “deliver a compelling human story, one full of heart and humor that dives deep into the people behind the mask,” so keep your eyes peeled for more information as 2023 wears on.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Release Date

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is due to release in fall 2023 exclusively for PS5. More information is expected to be revealed over the course of the year.

If you’re stuck for games to play until then, definitely check out Midnight Suns, a game where you can be best mates with Spidey himself.
