What if you dropped Pinocchio inside Bloodborne’s Yharnam? Maybe it sounds like a ridiculous concept, but South Korean indie dev Round8 Studio (Bless Unleashed) is going all-in on it with Lies of P. The apt title is a reference to Pinocchio’s greatest sin, and how it plays into the game is quite interesting. But we’ll get to that shortly. First, the big question to answer is just how widespread P’s lies are going to be, including if it’s coming to Game Pass or not.
So, will Lies of P make its way onto Game Pass? It would certainly be a great way for Round8 Studio to showcase its anticipated soulslike, and already being on the Xbox ecosystem improves the chances of being a day one Game Pass release. We have the complete details on the adventures of Geppetto’s creation.
Lies of P on Game Pass
During Gamescom 2022, Game Pass subscribers were treated to a nice surprise—a new future release added to the streaming service’s library. Though the original August 2023 release date has since changed, Lies of P is still slated to be a Game Pass release on day one. The game joins the growing selection of soulslike games, including Mortal Shell, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, and Remnant: From the Ashes.
Lies of P may be making its way to Game Pass at some point in the future, but it’s currently not slated for play across Xbox’s subscription service, or any other service at launch for that matter. It’s not a huge blow to Round8’s release, but the option to navigate P’s twisted universe on the road would be a nice option.
About Lies of P
Lies of P is a twisted interpretation of Carlo Collodi’s novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio. The Italian children’s fantasy has its fair share of strange imagery and violence, but Round8 Studio amps up both tenfold with an aesthetic inspired by FromSoftware greats like Bloodborne and Dark Souls.
As the titular humanoid puppet, players navigate a world sunk into mayhem and ravaged by oddities and monstrosities. Pinocchio awakens in the city of Krat, alone and without his master and creator, Geppetto. Equipped with an arsenal of weapons and a mechanical arm that can equip a number of gadgets, the puppet must battle his way through the city, mastering meticulous combat mechanics to take on powerful foes.
Staying true to the source material, lying is a core mechanic with the game-changing “Lying System.” Decisions made will alter specific events, leading to one of three different endings. Carefully choose who to lie to and what to lie about on Pinocchio’s quest to become a real boy.
Lies of P will be available September 19, 2023, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S, Switch. There’s currently a demo available that showcases a boss fight and early-game combat.
