Lego Super Mario Toy Set Revealed

It's basically a physical version of Super Mario Maker.

A few days ago, Nintendo teased a Mario-related Lego collaboration, which has now been fully revealed as a new interactive toy set where players will physically construct their own levels for Mario to move through. Many fans were hoping for a Lego Mario video game, although this is arguably even better.

As you can see from the trailer below, the Lego Super Mario toy set will include a large Mario figure in addition to an assortment of parts which you’ll be using to construct the stages he’ll be exploring. To add to the overall interactive experience, the Mario figure even has electronic eyes which allow him to change facial expressions, and a screen on his chest which basically acts as a HUD display by showing different images whenever he takes damage or receives a power up item.

All the accessory parts needed to build the stages will also look instantly familiar to Mario fans, and the set will even include figures of classic villains from the franchise, such as Koopas, Goombas, Shy Guys, Piranha Plants, and Bowser Jr. That’s a lot of bad guys, so it’s a good thing that Yoshi, Mario’s trusty dinosaur sidekick, will also have his own figure included with the set.

While this is an all-ages product, we have a feeling that Lego Super Mario will appeal strongly to older fans who grew up with Mario games in the 1980s, in addition to kids who just want to experience the fun of making their own Mario levels. So we can expect this product to fly off the shelves when it arrives.

No firm release date or information regarding pricing was given, although we can probably look forward to the Lego Super Mario sets later this year. Until then, we think the best way to describe this new toy is as a physical version of Super Mario Maker, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it.
