Netflix’s catalog of K-dramas has taken the world by storm in recent times. All of Us Are Dead, and Squid Game are two that are right on top of that list, but Hellbound, another one of Netflix’s originals, is what you’d call in a league of its own. The show has become one of the most-watched series on the service and has just about reached a cult-classic status, so it doesn’t come as a shock that demand for Hellbound: Season 2 is high.
After nearly a year of limbo, Netflix officially confirmed in late 2022 that Hellbound: Season 2 will happen. We haven’t heard much about it since, but some details about overhauls in the cast were revealed to the fans, and there have been mixed reactions, so if you’d like to know what the latest is on the series, then by all means, proceed.
When Is Hellbound: Season 2 Coming Out?
Hellbound: Season 2 currently does not have a release date. The show was renewed in September 2022, and the announcement was accompanied by a teaser that stated “Hellbound will return for Season 2”.
The when of it still remains unknown, but judging from the time the first season took to film and launch, it’s likely that Hellbound: Season 2 will arrive on Netflix sometime in 2024 — odds favoring the latter half of the year. Where the plot heads on from here hasn’t been revealed as well, but fans understand the gist of it since the Decrees aren’t what they seemed to be, and people’s faith in them has dwindled after uncovering they’re random killings instead of divine interventions.
Figuring out why people are getting condemned to Hell without any reason is what’ll follow in the story next, and even the thought of that is enough to get excited over. Seeing the New Truth’s ideology being utterly destroyed overnight will be another fascinating area that fans hope the creators explore in Hellbound: Season 2, but we’ll have to wait for a full-fledged trailer before we can get hyped up about that.
Who Is In The Cast of Hellbound: Season 2?
Earlier in 2023, Netflix made a very unexpected statement regarding Hellbound: Season 2’s cast. It was that Yoo Ah-in, the series lead, would be replaced by Kim Sung-cheol. The announcement shocked many fans, and they’ve been divided over it ever since, but with Yoo Ah-in caught up in a drug scandal at the time, his replacement seemed to be the right call.
On the bright side, almost all of the remaining main and supporting cast is returning in the sequel. Kim Hyun-joo will be back to portray Min Hye-jin, the daring attorney who stood up to the New Truth, and it’s also been confirmed Yang Ik-june will play the best detective in town once again. Other notable recurring cast members in Hellbound: Season 2 are Kim Shin-rok (Park Jeong-ja), Lee Dong-hee (Chairman Kim Jeong-chil), and Lee Re (Jin Hee-jeong).
Sure, changes have happened concerning the lead role of the series, but the show has never been about a single person or character. The beauty of Hellbound is in its deeply twisted representation of a society driven by a belief that turned out to be a lie, and now with the cat out of the bag, the show will just get more interesting with each new episode.
