Fight Club 2: First Six Pages Released For the Sequel

Fight Club is probably one of the most iconic films of the recent generation. It is endlessly quotable (if you ignore its first rule) and threw some really shit hot actors into the spotlight. If you’ve read the book, you’ll know the film did keep quite close to it, although the book, as is natural, is better. So, like any self respecting Chuck Palahniuk fan I am seriously super excited to see Palahniuk team up with artist Cameron Stewart and the guys at Dark Horse comics – they’re a seriously huge name in comics if you don’t know them- are putting together Fight Club 2. And best of all? Playboy has released the first 6 pages online!

So, if I wasn’t practically drooling at the prospect before I’d even read it, I have to say that by the time I’d got to the bottom I was ready to the lay comic out on a bed of roses and make sweet love to it. It’s beautiful. The opening appears to be narrated by Tyler Durden, which if you know anything about Fight Club, should give you the chills. Although we aren’t explicitly told who the narrator is, so I’m sure it’s open to theory.

Marla is a hugely prevalent character in this opening which just great because personally I love the crazy bitch. She makes me feel normal. In this instance she’s abandoning their child to a hapless babysitter to go off and get her support group fix, crashing a support group for victims of Progeria Syndrome (rapid ageing). So essentially she gatecrashes the support group for kids. Gotta love her.

I think I am most interested as to what will happen with the child. So far we are given the idea that ALL the crazy has been put into what is possibly a demon child. Who the narrator coldly admits is an ‘unforeseen consequence of sport fucking’. There is definitely room for some interesting development here.

However, the key point here is that our always charmingly depressed protagonist is kind of on the wagon and hiding from his former life as Taylor.  But with lines so early on such as “I’m not me” means we could be heading for even more plot twists and deviances from sanity. How much can a person war with them self before nothing is left? How far can Chuck Palahniuk drive us to the depths of the human soul? And how much will he make us laugh along the way? Only time will tell. And I am super excited.
