Having previously teased it as “Project TVADGYCGJR”, Frostpunk developers 11 bit studios have now revealed On the Edge, which will serve as the survival society sim’s final piece of DLC.
Set after the Great Storm, On the Edge features an expedition from the last surviving city of New London that will allow you to “shape the future of humanity in a defining moment in Frostpunk’s universe.”
The ins and outs of the expansion will be revealed in due course, but we already know that On the Edge will feature a new map that comes with its own unique mechanics and challenges, as if the game wasn’t already tough enough.
Maciej Sułecki, lead designer of Frostpunk: On The Edge:
“The Edge symbolizes a cross between what has been the past and what’s new to come. Although the society of New London — the city believed to be the last one on Earth — has survived, it doesn’t mean the struggle is over. The people face new challenges that are catalysts to spark up divisions, new problems, and conflicts based on the fact that people might have different points of view, different perspectives. This is the Edge that you will face as the leader of the society that survived the great snowstorm of Frostpunk.”
On the Edge is up for wishlisting on Steam with a tentative release window of Summer 2020. It’s available as part of the game’s Season Pass, which also includes previous expansions The Rift and The Last Autumn.
Frostpunk has become a huge favourite since releasing in 2018, it currently holding Very Positive reviews on Steam from almost 40,000 players. We’ve listed it as one of the best post-apocalyptic games ever made, and were also very effusive in our review:
“While not without some faults and limitations, Frostpunk is an often harrowing parable on society that makes you the monster without you even realising it.”
