According to a host of new rumours, FromSoftware are set to announce a new game during Microsoft’s E3 2019 Briefing, with George R.R. Martin involved as a lead writer. Unfortunately for those hoping for something more after that Game of Thrones finale, it won’t be anything tied to Martin’s previous work.

GamesRadar are reporting that the game will be called Great Rune, and it’ll explore the world of Norse mythology, which of course means that Twitter will be flooded with “Viking Dark Souls” hot takes as soon as the game gets announced. George R.R. Martin confirmed himself yesterday on his personal blog that he’d “consulted on a video game out of Japan” but the rumours of him being tied to From Software extend beyond that.

YouTube channel Spawn Wave published a video back in March that discussed a rumour about Martin himself partnering with FromSoftware, while Gematsu are also reporting that this game will have the acronym “GR”, and it’ll be an open world title with horseback riding published by Bandai Namco.

This is still a rumour at the moment, so there’s a possibility that FromSoftware announce absolutely nothing at E3 2019, making us all look foolish. That said, the variety of sources corroborating the same story suggest there’s a lot of truth here. Either way, we’ll only have to wait a couple of weeks to find out. Now if only FromSoftware and Devolver Digital can hurry up with Metal Wolf Chaos XD.
