Fox Announces Casting for Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm for X-Men: Apocalypse

After jump-starting the franchise with Days of Future Past, the only way Bryan Singer and co could really go was up. They had breathed new life into an ailing property, erased the woes of the more recent films and enabled themselves to really delve into the lore of the comics. As the end-credits tease proved, they’re swinging for the fences with the next one, electing to adapt the massively popular ‘Apocalypse’ arc for the big screen.

Being that a younger cast has already been established, the film will be set in 1983, with all the players from First Class reprising their roles. It’s already been announced that Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac will play the eponymous super-mutant and now we know who will play the younger renditions of some of the other X-men. Alexandra Kidd, most well known for playing Aaliyah in a TV biopic will play Storm, Mud star Tye Sheridan will play Cyclops and most excitingly of all, Sophie Turner will play Jean Grey. Turner is, of course, Sansa Stark and she hasn’t really had the chance to do much outside of that yet, so it will be really interesting to see how she approaches the role.

The rumor mill continues to grind as far as other cast members are concerned, with the biggest prevailing one being that Channing Tatum will appear as Gambit. The film is due to start shooting in the spring ahead of a May 2016 release, which will put it in direct competition with Civil War, the third Captain America movie. It’s likely to be the last time we get to see the younger X-Men players on screen, so let’s hope they go out with a bang.
