Fortnite’s Dual Pistols Are The Best Gun in the Game

Fortnite Battle Royale Dual Pistols

Fortnite is an absolute Goliath of a game at the moment, and it’s only getting bigger with the recently released Season 5 bringing an entirely new biome, multiple unlockable skins, and the inclusion of ‘toys’ that allow you to throw basketballs and hit golf balls to your heart’s content.

But there’s one incredible addition that might rank among the best Epic have ever provided: the Tomb Raider-esque Dual Pistols, that pack an ungodly punch and absolutely wreck anyone unfortunate enough to be standing in your proximity.

Maybe it’s just me, but these beasts seemed to have gone relatively under the radar when they arrived in Patch 4.5, back on the 27th of June. They came packaged with the Playground LTM, which could explain the lack of fanfare, but you’re seriously missing out if you aren’t using these at every possible opportunity.

Let’s have a quick look at the stats: the legendary Hand Cannon – a booming desert eagle – achieves 62.4 damage per second (DPS). Meanwhile, the legendary Dual Pistols, a couple of delights that rival the shotgun-meta of Fortnite’s close-quarters-combat, deliver a mighty 170.2 DPS. Yes: almost three times as much as a desert eagle. Let that sink in.

Now, I know what you’re saying; the Hand Cannon can be used at range, akin to a handheld sniper rifle. But you’re wrong; with how wonky Fortnite’s ranged combat can get – even with the first-shot accuracy now a staple – it’s not guaranteed you’ll knock an enemy on your first punt. Or your second. Or every other mighty boom that swings by them, alerting everybody around you to your current location.

Instead, try the sneakier approach. Zeroing in on a hapless foe with the Dual Pistols ready to roll is almost a guaranteed death sentence for anybody unlucky enough to find themselves in your path. Particularly if you’ve got a swift trigger-finger; their unrelenting burst will take anybody down in a handful of shots.

Also, consider this: the Hand Cannon and Revolver – your other two options for heavy-duty handgun warfare – use heavy bullets. Anybody who’s sunk hours into Fortnite will know that heavy bullets are much less common than medium; the exact currency that pays for the conveyor belt of death that Dual Pistols can promise.

Still haven’t won you over? Well, you’re wrong, but here we go: just look at these screenshots. Not only do the Dual Pistols decimate anything put before them, but they make you look like a complete killing machine at every opportunity. Even their sound design is spot-on, with the satisfying rat-tat-tat accompanying constant notifiers that you gunned down that final enemy between you and that sweet Victory Royale.

Next time you come across these outstanding weapons, don’t pick them up. Please. Because if people keep avoiding them, then I can get one step closer to winning on a semi-rare basis.
