Fortnite Season 4 Guide: Tips For Visiting the Centre of 4 Named Locations

Fortnite 1

Just when you thought the scavenger hunt style challenges are making their permanent return to the rotation, Epic switches it out for a different type of challenge again. Sneaky Epic. This week’s challenge is rather straightforward. At the centre of every named location is a glowing, white translucent flagpole. Simply getting close to the flagpole will cause it to become opaque, coloured and will begin to fly your profile’s symbol as a flag. This indicates (along with the newish UI) that your arduous and daring trip to the centre of the location has been formally recognised.

Of course, none of this sounds complicated and in truth it isn’t. The trick to this challenge is that you have to visit four different named locations in a single life. This of course means no dying, unless you have buddies to revive you. As this challenge is a bit more freeform in how you approach it, I’ll list out some general advice that will make it easier. Then I’ll propose what I think is the most efficient and safe route for completing the challenge. Without further ado!

1. If possible, attempt to do complete this challenge in squads or duos
Having a friend or three to help you up after dying will make the challenge a whole lot easier. As long as you can convince your buddies not to fire on the first thing you see, a squad is more of a help than hindrance. However, if they can’t control their trigger finger, solo will be easier. One person is harder to spot than four, after all. Solo games also tend to house a lot more skirmishes in general, which is also less attention directed at you.

2. Avoid fighting
Just like the stormcloud challenge, you are awarded no points for kills. The less attention you attract, the less chance you have of being killed. Even if you’re confident you can win a fight, you may attract the attention of someone you didn’t initially spot, which of course increases your chances of having to start again.

3. Be ready to build, not shoot.
This is especially true If you’re attempting to visit the centre of a heavily populated location (i.e. Tilted Towers). Better yet, wait for your enemies to shoot at each other before dashing in. Just make sure you have materials handy in case of an emergency.

4. Avoid running out in the open as much as possible
Try to move from one location by using cover (hills, buildings, trees, etc.). This will make you much harder to spot and in the event you are ambushed, you’ll have immediate obstacles around you to break line-of-sight and hopefully slip away from your opponent(s) entirely.

5. If possible, attempt to complete the challenge at locations the battle bus did not fly near
Most players tend to jump from the bus to locations close by to get into the action ASAP. You can exploit this by choosing a game where the bus doesn’t pass close to the proposed route below (or by using your own route).

Fortnite tips

This is the route I decided upon for doing this challenge. Tomato Town, Risky Reels, Wailing Woods and Lonely Lodge are the four closest named location to each other on the map. So the overall distance you need to travel is shorter, which means less likelihood of being shot. There is plenty of cover, with hills, houses and two separate forests to travel through that will help you remain undetected.

I recommend starting at Tomato Town for one primary reason. The first is the trip between Tomato Town and Risky Reels is the most open of the journey, with plenty of open sightlines to be shot from. Tomato Town is quite small, starting here will allow you to do what you need to do quickly then head towards Risky Reels. If you’re fast enough, most people will still be fighting over their initial landing location and as such, you shouldn’t encounter must resistance out in the open. After that it’s just a matter of sticking to cover as you move, avoiding fights and being ready to build yourself out of a tough spot. Regardless, try to stick to the route as changing it up will just increase the distance you need to travel via backtracking.

That’s all there is to it, really. Follow the above route and rules — I completed it on my first romp with no worries. The other guide worthy challenge for the week is the typical treasure hunt challenge, this time focusing on a map found in Haunted Hills. If you’re looking for help with that challenge, check out our guide here. The rest of the challenges are of the typical variety, killing, looting and being a public nuisance.
