Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 2 Has Been Extended (UPDATED)

Not exactly what the game needs right now.

Fortnite: Chapter 2 - Season 2

UPDATE: Epic have officially confirmed the season extension, though without much reason why. Their statement follows below:

We’re extending Chapter 2 – Season 2 of Fortnite beyond the original April 30 date. Our plan is to launch Chapter 2 – Season 3 on June 4.

Before then, there’s lots of content coming in the current Season. We have multiple game updates on the way that will deliver fresh gameplay, new Challenges, bonus XP, and a couple more surprises up our sleeve!

ORIGINAL STORY: As is really to be expected with The Event going on around the world now, it looks like Epic Games will soon officially announce that Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 2 will be extended until early June.

Originally planned to conclude on April 30th, an updated date for the season’s length on the official website reveals that it will now last until June 4th; an extension of almost five weeks.

This is, unfortunately, not a surprise. Really, it’s almost a miracle how these massive online games are able to continue operating as well as they do with the amount of developers working from home, so this extension wasn’t exactly hard to see coming.

It’s a familiar situation for fans at this point — I think it’s the third or fourth season in a row that has been given an extension; we would probably be on Season 4 of this Chapter by now without any of them.

This couldn’t come at a worse time for Fortnite in general, either. There’s currently a swell of animosity from its community towards SBMM, stale content and the game’s less than solid competitive state, leading popular content creator SypherPK to publish an honest assessment of where the game is at right now.

It seems his sentiments have been shared by many as the video is already sitting on 2.2 million views within the space of 24 hours. With the rise of Valorant and Warzone, Fortnite isn’t exactly dying, but it isn’t entirely flourishing right now, either.

Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 2 is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
