The First Trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron is Here

And frankly, it looks creepy as all hell. Marvel really have done an admirable job of maintaining momentum since the first Avengers movie blew our tiny minds in 2012. Since then there’s been a reliable (if uninspiring) stream of sequels and one fantastic new entry to the movie cannon. The first outing really doesn’t seem like it was that long ago, but now we only have about 7 months to wait until Age of Ultron drops, accordingly, the first teaser is here.

It has all the expected laurels of an action-movie teaser, explosions, slow-motion, Chris Evans. It’s also presented almost like a horror movie, with the entire thing set to a highly unsettling, distorted rendition of Pinnochio’s I’ve Got No Strings. It serves as an apt introduction for the titular Ultron, an artificial consciousness with the ability to build robotic hosts for himself (seen here using Tony Stark’s suits for this very purpose). He was created by Hank Pym (ie Ant-Man), which lends credence to the possibility of the character being introduced in this film, but since Michael Douglas appears nowhere on the casting credits or in the trailer, it might be boiled down to a few passion mentions.

Elsewhere we’re also given a closer look at Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (Aaron Tayl0r-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen), two seemingly antagonistic characters teased at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They are actually the offspring of Magneto, I’ve no idea how much mind Marvel are planning to pay that, considering that they aren’t actually allowed to mention X-Men or even ‘mutants’, Fox have the rights to both those terms. Andy Serkis (using his real face, for a change) also turns up, looking decidedly gruff. No word yet on who he’s playing, but it has been pointed out that he bears more than a passing resemblance to Ulysses Klaw, the arch-nemesis of The Black Panther. Black Panther is one of the Marvel universe’s cult favorites as well as one of the first prominent black superheroes, the notion that he might start appearing in the films is going to get a lot of people excited. Almost as excited as seeing Hulk fight a beefed up Iron Man suit.
