A new trailer for the 20th Dragon Ball movie, titled Dragon Ball Super: Broly, was recently revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con during the Dragon Ball Super panel in Hall H.

Fans will recognize that some plot points of the movie are similar to the 1993 Dragon Ball Z film Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan, although Frieza’s addition to the story spices things up even more. This movie finally adds Broly and Paragus to the list of canon characters of the Dragon Ball Super series.

The trailer finally puts an end to the long debate of whether the movie takes place in the past or after the events of Tournament of Power. It’s obvious that Goku will try to fight even more powerful opponents after going toe-to-toe with Jiren. Fans also get their first look at Lemo, Chirai, and Kikono in this trailer.

Paragus also accompanies his son, but his intention of destroying Goku and Vegeta is still unknown. The way Paragus orders Broly makes it clear that he’ll be mind controlling Broly in this movie as well.

Akira Toriyama did a great job by keeping Broly as one of the strongest characters in Dragon Ball universe. Golden Frieza praises his power level, and he completely overwhelms Super Saiyan Vegeta, Goku, and Golden Frieza, even in his base form.

Fans are praising Naohiro Shintani for his simple yet interesting designs for the characters of the movie. This talented animator was brought in by Toei Animation to work on the movie, and Akira Toriyama loved his work and let him come up with his original designs for the characters.

The new Dragon Ball Super movie is set to be released on December 14, 2018, in Japan. Funimation has acquired the theatrical rights for the movie and is planning to release it in the United States and Canada in January 2019.
