As one of the most talked about consoles of its time, the PS5 is becoming every console lover’s favorite. If you own the last-gen console, the PS4, you probably know that PS5 games aren’t region locked, which means you can buy them, wherever you live, though they may not always work.

You should also know some PS5 DLCs and promotions are only available to certain regions or countries. But, if you’re not in the US or elsewhere, don’t worry: we’ll show you some tricks to get past that. So, without further ado, here’s how to buy PS5 games and DLCs from other regions.

Things You’ll Need To Do

In order to enjoy the benefits of getting some unique prices and DLCs of PS5 games, you’ll need to create a new PSN (PlayStation Network) account. It’s nothing complicated, so keep calm and follow the instructions.

Although it’s not possible to change an account’s region or location, PSN allows its users to own multiple accounts, each with a different configuration. So, to buy PS5 games and DLCs from abroad, a new account needs to be created with the desired location.

But then, there’s the payment problem: if your PSN account location is set to another region or country, you probably won’t be able to use your local bank account to buy games. That problem has a pretty easy solution, though, which involves gift cards.

Here’s the step-by-step of the whole process.

How To Create A New PSN Account For A Different Region

As said above, you can’t change your account’s location on the PS5. What you can do is create another account, with another attached location. To do that, select the Add User option on the Welcome screen, or from the console’s settings. Simply follow the instructions and fill in the fields. Don’t worry about the payment method information, you can fill that with whatever you want. But, when choosing the account’s location, choose the location you want to get PS5 games’ prices and DLCs from.

That means if you’re in, let’s say, Portugal or Argentina, but you want prices and DLCs from the US, you need to choose the latter country. For address, use a website that allows you to generate a random address. Follow all the information and voilá, you have a US PSN account. You can do this process for other countries and regions too, including Europe, Asia, and South America.

Now, your PS5 store has games, DLCs and, most importantly, prices from other regions. You’re probably wondering: “How do I buy those games and DLCs now?”

If your regular payment method is accepted in your new PSN account, then you’re lucky. Buy whatever you want with that method and proceed to the next step. Beware that you may face charges for overseas payments, though.

But, if you don’t have such luck, you’ll need to use another method to buy those PS5 games and DLCs: gift cards.

All you have to do is head over to Amazon and buy a PlayStation Store gift card for the respective region. You can also go to any other store that sells those gift cards. Remember to check if the gift card works for the region of your new account.

To redeem your gift card on the console, click on the three dots in the upper-right corner of the PlayStation Store screen and select Redeem Codes, type your gift card’s code and continue. To redeem your gift card on the website, visit the PlayStation Store website while using a VPN and log in to your new account from a different region. Click your profile photo and then Redeem Codes, and redeem your code to add the gift card to your account.

This is how you can also redeem codes for games from other regions that you might have bought from third-party sources.

You might realize there’s another problem, though. The game you just bought is in your new account, not in your original one. But there’s a way around that, too.

How To Use Your Original Account To Play PS5 Games

Since you bought the games with your new account, those games are in your new account’s possession. Luckily, the PS5 has a game sharing feature, which allows the sharing of products between different users of the same console. That means you can use your account to play a game someone else bought in their account. Of course, in the current context, both accounts are yours.

Normally, PS5 consoles come with the game sharing feature activated by default. To check if yours is activated, head over to Settings, then Users and Accounts and Other. You’ll see the option Console Sharing and Offline Play; hit it and see if it’s enabled. If not, enable it. You should do that with your new account, not your original one.

There you go. Switch to your original account and freely use it to play the PS5 games from different regions you bought with your new account.

Remember that you can only activate your Console Sharing and Offline Play feature with one console. If you use another console and activate that feature with your new account, the previous console you used it with will automatically disable the feature. Make sure to active your primary console.

Now, sit back and enjoy your PS5 games from other regions. If you’re not sure of what to buy, then maybe you’re in need of some inspiration?
