How To Buy PS4 Games From Other Regions

Several online stores have exclusive items and prices for some regions, which is called region locking. Although PS5 games are not region locked, the same can’t be said about PS4 games.

Unfortunately, many games and DLC (as well as their cheaper prices) on the PlayStation Store for the PS4 aren’t available for some regions. Fortunately, we know the way to bypass that problem. It’s a simple job, but a lot of PS4 owners don’t know about how to browse the PlayStation Store of other regions that aren’t their own.

So, if you live in a region with unavailable games or other products on the PlayStation 4 Store, read on – here’s how to buy PS4 games from different regions.

 

What To Do

With the PlayStation Store for the PS4, in order to get access to products that aren’t available to your region, you’ll have to follow some steps. All in all, it’s a pretty quick and easy process.

First of all, you’ll need to create a new account in the region of your desire. If you want the products and prices from the US PSN, you’ll need a US account. Then, you’ll have to buy games for that account using gift cards. After that, all you need to do is set your PS4 as the primary one for the new account.

When you’re done, it’s all fun and games.

For this guide, we’ll assume you want PS4 games from the US PlayStation Store, but it’ll work for other regions and locations you might want as well (if you want to access, for example, the Japanese PlayStation Store, just replace every “US” here with “Japan”).

 

How To Create A New PSN Account

The PlayStation Store will show you products and prices from your registered region. In order to see the US store, you’ll need an account registered with the US as its location.

For that, you have to log out of your PSN account and start the creation process of a new account. Go to Power > Switch User > New User > Create a User on your PS4, or simply follow the steps on the PlayStation website.

When asked about an address, fill it with something random located in the US, preferably a residential area or a hotel. There are places online where you can randomly generate a US address.

After that, there will be a space for you to insert an email address. Keep in mind you can’t insert a non-existent email as you will have to verify your address, nor an email that has already been registered for another PSN account, which means you can’t use the same email of your original account. It takes two minutes to create a new Gmail, though.

With every other necessary information given and your account verified, you’ll have access to PS4 games and prices from the US. Still, you can’t buy things with that account, yet.

 

How To Buy Foreign Games In The PS4 Store (Gift Cards)

It’s not possible to buy things with your usual payment method if your account is set to another location other than your real one. The billing information won’t match the account information.

Don’t worry, though. In order to pay for your new PS4 games (or whatever else you might be looking for in the US PS4 Store), you’ll need to buy credit for your new US account.

Credit can be bought online in the form of cards, with codes that you can redeem with your PSN account. Look for trusted websites that sell these cards, such as Amazon, and check if the card works for the US and if you can afford it (some shops charge more than the card’s value). If everything is checked out and okay, buy it.

Head over to PlayStation Store, scroll to the bottom of the sidebar, and then select Redeem Codes. Insert the code from the card you bought and hit redeem. With that done, your account will have credit to buy new PS4 games with the US PlayStation Store.

Another viable option is to buy cards for the games that you want. Just take all the precautions you’d take if you would buy credit: check if the card works for the US and if you can afford it.

How To Play What You Bought With Your Original Account (Primary PS4)

Even though the game is in your new account, you can still play it with your original account, regardless of the latter’s location not being in the US.

But, of course, you’ll need to follow a few steps. Nothing too hard, though; on the contrary, it’s pretty easy.

To access the games you just bought, but with your original account, you’ll need to set your PS4 as the primary PS4 of your new US account.

With the US account logged in, head over to Settings and then PlayStation Network. From there, activate your PS4 as that account’s primary one.

Now, switch back to your original account and there you go: you can play the games from the US account with your original account.

Trophies and multiplayer work normally, which means you’ll play just as if the games were bought with that account. For this reason, you can freely check out some neat multiplayer games to get for your PS4.
