As in previous years, Apex Legends will be celebrating its 3rd anniversary via a Collection Event. Unlike previous years, however, the Apex Legends 3rd Anniversary Collection Event is coming with some major changes – and not everyone is thrilled. Continue reading for a look inside the Anniversary Collection event for Apex Legends and all of its loot.

Apex Legends 3rd Anniversary Collection Event Start Date

The 3rd Anniversary Collection event launches in Season 12 on February 15th, 2022, and ends on March 1st, 2022.

Apex Legends 3rd Anniversary Collection Event Free Rewards

As is custom, Respawn is kicking things off with a set of free character-specific Apex Packs. For logging each week from February 8th – March 1st, 2022, players will unlock 3 Legends (Octane, Wattson, and Valkyrie) along with three character-specific Apex packs guaranteed to produce at least one cosmetic specific to that Legend. Those who log in during the final week will also get a bonus item – a Legendary Apex Pack.

Unlike the previous two events, which contained cosmetics that were then added to the permanent loot pool after the events ended, the 3rd Anniversary Collection Event is just that – a collection event. Despite most of the skins on offer sharing identical designs with pre-existing, permanent Legendary skins (including Crypto’s “Hype Beast”, Loba’s “Purple Reign” and Fuse’s “Dread Captain” Legendaries), these skins will not be sticking around once the event is over.

As usual, this Collection Event will feature 24 cosmetic items that can be unlocked via Event Packs, Apex Coins, or crafting metals.

Apex Legends 3rd Anniversary Collection Event Bloodhound Prestige Skin/Mythic Store

Previous anniversary Collection Events have opted to reward players who collect all 24 cosmetics with a set of Heirloom Shards instead of a specific Legend’s heirloom weapon, allowing players the chance to craft whichever Heirloom they want, or save those shards for a rainy day.

This year, it seems Respawn has taken all heirloom-related loot off the table in favor of debuting the first of a new type of character cosmetic: the Prestige skin, a Mythic-tier character skin that visually evolves as players rack up damage.

According to Respawn:

Prestige Skins are Mythic-rarity level cosmetic Legend skins that each have 3 tiers (3 versions total of the Prestige Skin). Upon unlocking tier 1 of a Prestige Skin, a player will be able to complete challenges to unlock Tier 2 and Tier 3 at no additional cost. Players will have an unlimited amount of time to complete these challenges once available.

Unlike the reactive Legendary weapon skins players can earn from completing their Battle Pass, Prestige skins don’t evolve in-game or after a certain amount of kills – they evolve once you’ve hit a certain amount of damage and complete various challenges. After you complete the third and final tier, the skin’s final form is unlocked, along with a bonus treat: a Prestige skin-exclusive finisher.

The required damage amounts to evolve the skin are in the tens of thousands, so it may be a good idea to only purchase Prestige Skins for the Legends you play the most, as the $160 required to purchase all 24 collection items is certainly nothing to sneeze at.

Similar to Heirloom weapons, Prestige skins will be available in the Mythic Skin store once their collection event has ended.

Apex Legends is free to play on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
