Warner Bros. just released the trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. The film is a standalone adventure about Furiosa’s origins.
As the world fell, young Furiosa (Taylor-Joy) is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus (Hemsworth). Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. As Immortan Joe and the Warload Dementus spar for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
We first saw Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, where the character was played by Charlize Theron. Theron received praise for her powerful performance, and is probably the reason why there’s was traction for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Director George Miller did consider casting Theron and then using CGI to de-age her, but felt like the technology still isn’t quite there yet. Miller eventually settled on Taylor-Joy after seeing her performance in Last Night in Soho.
Mad Max: Fury Road took home 6 Oscars, including Costume Design and Sound Editing. The film is one of the best examples of a blockbuster also just being a hella good movie.
