Animal Crossing New Horizons: How To Catch Wasps

Float like a butterfly, sting like a...wasp.

Players new to the world of Animal Crossing New Horizons will no doubt cackle with joy the first time they catch a koi, try to suppress the lovely tears when they first see a hermit crab, and also repress screams of terror when encountering a wasp nest and getting wrecked by what’s inside.

Luckily for you, you can actually deal with the swarm of wasps with a very simple trick that the game really doesn’t tell you about at all.

To catch a wasp in New Horizons, go up to a tree with your net equipped. These nets can be purchased from Timmy Nook at Resident Services and later at Nook’s Cranny, as well as being easily created at a workbench.

As you never know which tree a wasp nest will be in, you will likely just have to shake every single one in the near vicinity by pressing A until they swarm out. However, every randomly generated island we have been to has at least one wasp nest, so bear that in mind while farming up.

Wasp

As soon as the wasps swarm out of a tree, line up your net and then press A to catch them. You have to be very quick with this as they will catch up to you fast.

If you’re lucky and have the tool ring, you may be able to get your net out afterwards and then snag them, though it’s quite difficult to time perfectly.

After catching the wasp, you can then display them in your home, sell it for a decent price, or trade it in to Blathers at the museum.

Don’t forget to take some medicine if you get stung by a wasp, which you can either buy or craft after learning the recipe.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is available now as a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
