Consumables are items in Returnal that can be used with R1 and they range from simple health vials to little drones that can help you out in battle. However, is there a way to increase max consumables in Returnal, seeing as how you start with just one?
The simple answer is yes, thanks to permanent upgrades called Xeno-Tech Prisms, of which there are two you can find across the game for a maximum of three consumable slots. You will need to make a good amount of story progress and beat the first boss.
The first Xeno-Tech Prism is available right at the start of Crimson Wastes and is almost unmissable. Just watch out on your mini-map as you push through the desert and make your way up some stairs.
The second Xeno-Tech Prism is located in Echoing Ruins, the game’s fourth level. It’s also hard to miss, located in one of the main rooms on an altar with a large hole in the floor.
Simply collect both and then you will permanently have two extra consumable slots to play with for the rest of the game. Scroll between them with left and right on the d-pad.
