Originally teased as part of an animated short featuring Jonesy stranded on a desert island, the Flare Gun is finally a part of Fortnite following the v13.20 patch, which also seems to be bringing Captain America as a skin.
One of the most unique guns added to the game so far, the Flare Gun deals a decent amount of damage to players, but its its effect against structures may be of plenty interest for the meta going forward.

As you can see, the Flare Gun hits for 60 damage and has a clip size of 6. It is a single fire weapon, which means that it will need a 1.5 second reload after every shot. It moves very slowly compared to every other weapon in the game and is quite easy to get out of the way of, so it may not be the best choice against a shotgun.
Adding to that, when you have used all six flares within the gun, it will then just disappear from your inventory.
As already mentioned, its effectiveness against builds is what will likely make it one of the most sought after guns in the game due to the splash damage and also fire damage that effects their HP over time. Interestingly, when it hits something, it also seems to “ping” the location to everyone nearby and even tags enemies near it.
You can see the Flare Gun being a good yet annoying pick for competitive play. While it may not change the meta dramatically, the Flare Gun promises to shake things up a little.

Flare Guns are of the Rare variety, so they should not be too difficult to bump into.
As a new item, it seems to be more difficult than usual to find, though. It’s available as floor and chest loot, as well as supply drops, but its drop rate doesn’t seem to be nearly as high as most other weapons, despite the rarity.

Chest – 4.03%
We recommend that you go to Catty Corner or any POI with henchmen and then try to get into a vault, or try to open a locked chest. This will make your chances of finding one much higher, as there’s a higher concentration of loot in these spots, and it also seems like you get much more lucrative gear overall.
Failing that, you can always jump into Team Rumble and try that way. There’s so much loot in TR and more opportunities to try to find them.
No doubt there will be a million and one new strategies that come with the Flare Gun in Fortnite. You can see it being a weapon that has plenty of exploits and techniques, especially in terms of getting into boxes and forcing players out of hiding.
