Ubisoft Planning To Bring Rainbow Six Siege To Next-Gen Consoles

Rainbow Six Siege is eternal. Accept its light into your life.

With the next generation of consoles looming in the horizon, the question needs to be asked of how “games-as-a-service” titles will be supported going forward. It’s a question that Ubisoft have already been asking themselves, and the answer is a simple one: just allow players to migrate over to the next generation when it launches.

In an interview with the Daily Star during the Finals of Siege’s Pro League Season IX, brand director Alexandre Remy spoke about how the Rainbow Six Siege team aren’t planning a sequel anytime soon. Instead, Ubisoft are planning to let players continue their progress when the PS5 and Xbox Two: Electric Boogaloo launch. Side note: I really want the new Xbox to be called that.

“The reason behind this is we don’t want to segregate our community between the different platforms. In an ideal world tomorrow, we’d love players from every platform to be able to play together. We are approaching next-gen with the same spirit. The strength of any multiplayer game is the size of its community, so I do believe that we have to make every effort possible that when next gen comes in, they are treated as a high-end PC versus another PC.”

The backwards compatibility support for both the PS5 and new Xbox has been well documented at this point. Without confirming specifics, Sony have already mentioned how integral backwards compatibility will be in transitioning players from PS4 to next-gen, while backwards compatibility has been a key part of the Xbox’s strategy for a few years now. Either way, it looks like Siege isn’t going anywhere any time soon, and that’s fine by us.
